Making money with Craigslist
Craigslist is a simple system built around connection local buyers and sellers via a free website. It is very easy to make postings, but we don’t need to do that. The only thing that you have to do is scan through these listings to try to find a good deal. Now perhaps I have made that last statement sound a little bit too easy, but before you judge, let me explain myself.
I have always had an interest in computers ever since I was younger, and since that is my specialty area, I decided to use craigslist to acquire used laptops. The reason that I chose laptsops is because a laptop is a very lightweight, easy to ship item. If I had to name a specific number, I would say that I probably find about 2 or 3 decent deals each day. Whenever I find a prospective laptop, I read the listing and immediately go to Ebay to check how it is priced on there. If there is a significant price difference, then I will contact the seller and go inspect the item and buy it. By significant price difference, I mean, at least $25. (anything less wouldn’t be worth the gas to go pick it up) You always need to take into account ebay listing fees. So what you want to do now is to take pictures of it, or do like me and use the craigslist lister’s pictures. I then put a listing on ebay for the laptop and just wait. With Ebay you need to monitor your listing incase you get any bogus high bidders (Nigerian scam). Use the manufacturer’s product description/specifications for the item, but be sure to list it’s condition and what accessories come with it. In my experience I generally do not use the “Buy It Now” feature because it costs more to have.
Example: I recently purchased a 3.2ghz P4 Toshiba laptop off of craigslist for $350. It came with restore CDs and all of that good stuff. I listed it on ebay using the pictures that the craigslist lister used. I used a product description from amazon.com (first site I found that had it), and described the condition of the laptop. I then started the bidding at $350. The laptop sold 3 days later for $492. I shipped the laptop to Canada where the buyer requested and went home and looked at that extra $140 in my paypal account. Right now I use this method every day with laptops. I buy 3 to 5 laptops per week and generally make around $400 per week in pure profit from this alone. Again, please don’t go out and search for laptops just because I said I made that much per week from them, I prefer laptops because I know about computers and I enjoy working with them.
*Don’t forget about those ebay fees! They can and do add up.
Good Luck!
