Effectively using Pay Per Click advertising

When marketing your product it is important to use free advertising such as forums and equally if not more important to use paid advertising. Whether you purchase an ad spot on a site or run a campaign in the local newspaper, something about seeing it in writing makes people want to buy.

What I will be discussing is pay per click or PPC strategies. PPC advertising is one of the most popular and effective types of internet advertising. You end up paying an ad publisher an alloted amount every time someone clicks on your ads.

When using PPC advertising, it is important to remember that you are not the only person out there who is trying to sell your product, especially if it is in a popular field such as making money online. The more popular a topic, the more competition you will have for ad spots, and the more competition you have means the more money you will have to pay to get the top ad spot.

In a recent study, the top ad spot gets around 75% more clicks than the number two spot and the number two spot gets more than the number three spot and so on. Your goal is to get the number one advertising spot while spending as little money as possible. It may sound impossible since there are so many other people doing the same thing, but it isn’t.

You will be using “long tail keywords” to support your ad. The number one thing that you do NOT want to do is to use general keywords such as “make money online” or “free money”, if you use those words, you will pay a lot for each click and get nearly zero sales. So how do you get more sales while spending less money? Use keywords like “unique way of making money online” or “make money online without ebay”, the people who end up clicking on those are more likely to buy your product. Even if they don’t, you won’t spend nearly as much money trying to get them to.

Be sure to use keywords that are relevant to YOUR site. If your site is about making money online, then use words that are specific to the type of product or guide that you are selling. If you sell a guide to affiliate marketing, then use that in the keywords. Create variations of simple phrases to get more clicks, such as: instead of “affiliate marketing” use “making money with affiliate marketing.” Your traffic will be much more targeted, therefore increasing sales over time.

Please be careful with your keywords and your monthly budget, as it is easy to lose money doing this.

Some popular PPC advertising companies you will want to work with are:

Google Adwords (more competition, but it is the most used search engine)

Search123

Yahoo

Miva

These three are a very good starting point, and as you get used to PPC advertising, you can branch out into other search engines.
